Want to know how Silver Spring became what it is today?  There's a lot more to the story than just Francis Preston Blair discovering a mica-flecked spring near the rural community of Sligo and building his summer home there.  In an encore to his well attended talk about Silver Spring and the Civil War, Robert Oshel will explain how Silver Spring developed and show contemporary photos as well as other illustrations.  MUCH more info HERE.

Raising Hope Walkathon
Please come out and support your community while enjoying a fun and productive walk (or run) and help low-income individuals in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park area. The Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington (ACSGW) is organizing a walkathon through Sligo Creek Park on October 12th: , MD.  ACSGW will collect $10 per participant for the 5K and $15 per participant for the 10K, which will go towards funding ACSGW programs that help the disadvantaged in the community.  Volunteers will be on hand passing out water bottles and helping with street crossings.
