La Bestia: Sweet Mother,
An Immigrant's Tale
A bit of New York City's East Village comes to Takoma Park
This dance/music event is a ballad which tells the story of Valencia, a Honduran immigrant who suffers indignities and threats to live her dream: coming to the United States to start a new life.  It is told as myth, a story within a story within a story, bringing together the timeless and the particular. The musical component, created by Desiree Miller (Cello) and Becca Weiss (singer) underscores the libretto (by Takoma Park's own Tom Block) with virtuosity and a variety of styles.
